Job Title : Health and Nutrition Coordinator

Job Summary:

Responsible for obtaining and interpreting anthropometric screenings and assessing each child’s nutritional status to identify those at risk.  Provides counseling to parent of nutritional at risk children.  Provides nutrition and health education to teaching staff, cooks, health and nutrition services specialists, parents and children. 

Observes, trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned Health and Nutrition Services Specialists and provides resources, information and support in identifying health concerns that may be linked to nutritional needs; and with the Food Services Coordinators in planning menus that meet the nutritional and health needs of all children as well as developing menus for children needing special diets.  Serves as liaison to the public school and community in reference to the health and nutritional needs of enrolled children.  Coordinates activities with other departments.


Minimum Qualifications:

Educaction:
Baccalaureate of Science degree with major in Foods and Nutrition, Dietetics or Home Economics, Health Science, Health Administration and a minimum of three years experience in community health and nutrition including services to children 0-6.

  Experience Requirements:
 
  1. Must possess knowledge of Head Start or working experience with preschool
  2. Must possess knowledge of health and nutrition issues related to preschool children and low-income families.
  3. Must possess knowledge of the food Pyramid as it relates to nutritional needs of children.
  4. Must possess knowledge of community resources such as AHCCCS, WIC, Food Plus, etc.
  5. Minimum of 2 years supervisory experience or be able to demonstrate evidence of supervisory skills.
   
  Additional Experience:
 
  • Must be able to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Must possess skills in problem solving, time management, organization, processing paperwork efficiently, and collecting and interpreting health data.
  • Must be proficient in reading, writing, and oral communications in English and Spanish.
  • Must be able to appropriately adjust to quickly changing circumstances and multiple demands.
  • Position requires an occasional pre-planned basis, a ‘flex’ schedule forty-hour week (work week begins on Wednesday and ends on a Tuesday).  This could include days that are longer than an eight-hour day and days that are shorter than an eight-hour day.

Salary: $1,563.20 Bi weekly 40 hours per week, 52 working weeks per year
